Antique Mahjong Mah Jongg Set Beautiful Ornate Brass Mounted Lacquered Case
Antique mahjong set housed in a impressive lacquered case with engraved and pierced brass mounts. C ase beautifully decorated with auspicious Chinese symbols and motifs including bats, butterflies, the wan or swastika symbol and stylised ruyi fungus. Brass handles of each tray beautifully designed as little moths, interior of trays painted red.
Complete set of 144 bone and bamboo tiles for play plus four spare blanks (148 in total). All tiles in lovely condition and measure 30mm x 22mm x 12.5mm, generous bone tops make up approximately 50% of the tile. Interesting flower and season tiles showing different dwellings, structures and landscape scenes. Set complete with a large quantity of long, good quality bone scoring sticks, two bone dice and tong box with wind discs.
Case in good antique condition, brass mounts patinated and in lovely condition some old marks to the lacquer from metal polish, a few areas of lacquer loss, a small lacquer split to one side, some general fading and spotting in places and some other minor expected signs of wear commensurate with age. Case measures 24.7cms x 18cms x 18.5cms. A lovely set housed in an absolutely stunning case perfect for play or display. Please see photos as part of condition report.
