An antique, late Victorian period Whittington pattern miniature travel chess set in a folding mahogany box with some boxwood pieces, as found. When fully closed, the mahogany box measures 7 ins (178 mm) x 3.4 ins (87 mm) x 2.5 ins (63 mm) high and has brass hinges. The actual chess board is made from squares of alternate satin wood and rosewood veneer. The box has a name incised on the outside top or base?

And one of the fastening hooks to the outside of the box is missing although still closes securely. Otherwise, good condition overall with expected signs of wear etc.. Commensurate with age and use. A handy antique chess set which should be easy to restore, if necessary, and would make a very welcome addition to anyone's collection, display or for use etc...
